Why did you run for this position? We all remember the daunting experience of being a fresher but for me; the Law Society played a pivotal role in helping me get my feet on the ground. I applied for this position because I wanted to offer guidance and make sure first year students know they are not alone! Throughout my time at University the Society has had such a positive impact on my life in Warwick that I wanted the opportunity to return the favour. Describe your role in the Law Society My responsibilities primarily focus on the welfare of the students and communicating their worries through to other departments and guarantee they are adequately addressed. My duties further organising the book sale in term 1 and implementing and maintain the mentorship scheme. The latter is a great way of offering guidance to first year students and ensuring they know how to take full advantage of their short time at university. Career aspirations To be a successful solicitor! Describe yourself in 5 words Ambitious, Optimistic, Approachable and Enthusiastic What hobbies do you enjoy? Whenever I’m free I love reading or relaxing with friends Favourite place to be: Camden Favourite song: At the moment it would have to be Everything by Lifehouse Who / What inspires you? My family but in particular my sisters, they have a knack of overcoming any obstacles thrown at them. Best memory of last year: Law Ball ‘10 without a doubt Best piece of advice for freshers: Make the most of being a student, try new things and constantly challenge yourself and you will reap the benefits! Any final words? Warwick Law Society's Mentoring Scheme As Internal affairs officer, Amrita Guram is responsible for providing the 'mentoring scheme'. This scheme pairs up a current student (the Mentor) with a new student (the Mentee). The Mentor then acts as a source of support for the Mentee on a range of issues such as essays, exams, adjusting to life at university, module choices and personal issues. I strongly recommend this programme for every new student, and due to its success in the past, is a guaranteed anchor for every individual starting a law degree. .
