Why did you run for this position?
At an organizational level, I feel that Pro Bono is a vital component of the Law Society as it gives members the opportunity to engage with key issues facing our local community as well gain a new perspective of law in practice. While Pro Bono was very successful last year in providing such opportunities through its many projects, I want to help ensure that these achievements are sustained and fledgling initiatives are supported. At a personal level, during my time at Warwick, I have mainly been involved in matters relating to asylum and immigration, through volunteering, campaigning, fundraising and conducting academic research. I felt that by running for this position I would be able to broaden my understanding of other issues that our local community faces while at the same time use my accumulated experience for Pro Bono’s benefit.

Describe your role in the Law Society
The Pro Bono Officers’ role is chiefly that of an administrator. So while it is the responsibility of the Project Leaders to run the day-to-day activities of individual Projects, it is our duty to provide them advice, monitor their work, launch new initiatives, liaise with members, project leaders, partner organizations, donors and the University as well as organize regular campaigning and fund-raising events. As a member of the Executive, we are also expected to contribute to the general activities of the Law Society, such as organizing the Law Ball.

Best piece of advice for freshers:
As a Pro Bono Officer: Don’t be afraid to start new initiatives just because you’re a first year. Always feel free to express your ideas/proposals to us, your other peers and teachers – but also be prepared to defend them and take criticism on the chin. As a Law Student: Lesley Morris is the most important person in the Law School. Stay on her good side.

Any final words?
