Sub-committee application form

Obiter Dicta, things said ‘by the by’, is exactly just that. This is the title of Warwick Law Society’s infamous magazine. It is a student led and student run bi-annual magazine, offering you a vast insight into current legal affairs and an introduction to the broad spectrum of career opportunities available to Warwick graduates.

Your editors for this academic year are Natalie Raine and Shona Lester.

The vision for this year is clear: YOU. We want a magazine that is based around what the average Warwick student is all about; Relevant, Topical, Debate-Starter and general Hot Topic of Conversation.

For Obiter Dicta this year we hope to make the magazine as relevant to your needs as possible: there will be a clear running theme throughout each production; a continuing emphasis on the broader range of writing skills present within our student body with the promotion of legal fiction, mock moot, and poetry; and a clearer and stronger alliance formed with other societies such as Warwick Banking and Finance Society for the benefit of those hoping to enter Commercial Law, and selected Chambers to assist those considering applying to the Bar.

To aid all of this, we will be setting up a unique sub-committee at the beginning of term one. The role of each member will be to aid with the creation, editing and distribution of the magazine. This may involve the creation and editing of articles, legal research, magazine design, to name but a few. We would be particularly pleased to receive applications from a wide range of students, from freshers to final years, postgraduates, and non-law students, or those from a business background.

OD demands a creative flair from its writers, a passion for writing and a dynamic outlook in all aspects of Law and the legal career at large.

If being part of the sub-committee is not for you, remember that there is always the chance to submit an article, once the themes are released. The best of the submitted articles will then appear in the printed Magazine; copies of which are made available for free, circulated in lectures, and available from the Law School Undergraduate Common Room.

We look forward to meeting you in Freshers Week, and presenting you with information about the new Obiter Dicta for 2010-11. If you have any initial queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on od@warwicklawsociety.com
